My mom is the hardest working woman I know. As a full-time nurse, she has always put others first, caring for her patients and her family with endless compassion and strength. I am her oldest son, and I feel it’s my responsibility to help her now, just as she has always helped us.

Recently, my mom received a new liver—a life-saving surgery that has given her a second chance. While we are so grateful for this gift, it also means she is unable to work for at least three months, depending on how her recovery goes. She does have some supplemental income, but there’s a gap that leaves her unable to afford many of her bills. She’s facing the real possibility of losing her house and having her utilities shut off, which is a huge worry during such a vulnerable time.
