Support for "Nurse Julie's" Battle

Community Rallying Behind Dedicated "Nurse Julie" Battling Cancer.

Julie, a devoted nurse from the small Northern Ontario region of West Nipissing, has spent over two decades selflessly caring for patients. Her career began at the North Bay Regional Health Center, while she also dedicated five years to teaching nursing and PSW at College Boreal. For the past eight years, she has been a vital member of the Blue-sky Family Health Team.

In 2017, on Valentine's Day, Julie received the devastating diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. After three months of grueling chemotherapy, she received the uplifting news in June 2017 that her treatment was successful, and her cancer was eradicated. Despite the challenges, Julie remained positive through the years, with each follow-up scan bringing good news, including her last in February 2023, confirming her cancer remained in remission.

However, April 2024 brought a harsh reality as Julie's cancer returned, this time more aggressive than before. Her hematologist delivered a message of hope, emphasizing the curability of her condition through further chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Julie has already begun this challenging journey, with the stem cell transplant expected to require four to six weeks of hospitalization in Ottawa and Sudbury, Ontario. Following the transplant, she anticipates a recovery period of six to twelve months, during which she will remain off work.

Despite her strength and independence, Julie now finds herself in need of support. While creating a GoFundMe campaign was not her idea, it serves as a lifeline to help alleviate the financial burden of her treatment. Julie's focus remains on the future and the life she hopes to live beyond illness. By rallying together, we can make a difference in Julie's journey, offering not only financial assistance but also a powerful message of community and compassion.
