On 3/4/2024, Noxx had a tethered cord release. He was discharged on March 11, 2024. The evening of March 11th, we noticed drainage from his incision on his back. On March 12th, Noxx went back to the ER for a CSF leak, and they placed a lumbar-peritoneal shunt. He was there until 3/18. We were home for two days, and the morning of 3/21, he had another CSF leak. He had surgery on 3/21 to externalize his LP shunt. On 3/24, he had surgery to have a lumbar drain placed. On 3/27, they internalized the LP shunt, and on 3/30, he had a VP shunt placed. He was finally released from the hospital on April 22, 2024.
Noxx has been in and out of the hospital since then. Most recently, we made the decision to take him to Cleveland Clinic. His first appointment was to be March 12th; however, he was admitted there on February 14th. During that hospitalization, we learned that Noxx's LP shunt was dislodged from his spine.
Noxx will now be admitted on March 24th to undergo multiple tests in preparation for surgery on March 27th.
The plan still is to be admitted on March 24th. He will have a CT of his brain completed that day. On the 25th, he will be under sedation for MRIs of his head and full back. If they are able to see any spinal fluid on the MRI, they likely won't need further testing. If they have to, they will do a myelogram where they would do a spinal puncture and insert dye into the spinal sac to check for leaks. Depending on what those tests show, it will determine the full scope of surgery on the 27th. There is a possibility that he still has a leak in his spine, and they would patch that. The next possibility is externalizing the VP shunt, which they would make an incision on his abdomen and pull the tubing out and connect it to an external drain. He would also need an ICP monitor, which would be placed through a burr hole on the right side of his skull. The best possible scenario is just the LP shunt needs to be removed.
Please continue to pray for our sweet Noxxy. He is a fighter in every aspect of the word. In a world where you can be anything, BE NOXX
