Support for Nina

On Friday, May 11, 2018 Nina went to daycare like any other day but that day would change our lives forever. Around mid-day we received the worst phone call imaginable.... that she was choking and we needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible. Despite all the efforts made, Nina sustained a brain injury due to a lack of oxygen.  The basal ganglia is the part of her brain that was injured - the control center for muscle movement.   She completely lost her ability to walk, talk and move.  She was also diagnosed as having dystonia... which causes her muscles to work against each other... thus locking up and not allowing for movement or muscle relaxation.  We are currently at a children's rehabilitation hospital where she is receiving occupational therapy,  physical therapy,  and speech five times a week. She is followed by a team of specialists who are trying to maximize her recovery. At this time they say to prepare for at least a few months in the hospital and they believe she will need ongoing outpatient rehabilitation for the foreseeable future. She has made wonderful progress in the time we've been here and we are cautiously optimistic about her recovery. Please say a prayer for our precious angel.
