My brother and sister-in-law welcomed their daughter into the world about a month ago, and since birth she has been in the NICU receiving round-the-clock care. She underwent surgery for type 1 mid jejunal atresia and is now in recovery. She is currently working on feeding, which has been a slow process due to some reflux, something that is expected following her surgery. She also experiences apnea, which is why she is on oxygen to support her as her body continues to heal. In addition, she remains on medication for SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) related to a thickened mitral valve, though thankfully her heart condition has been stable since surgery. Doctors are also monitoring a rare genetic finding involving the PURA gene. At this time, this is not an official diagnosis—her specific genetic variant has never been documented in medical literature, making it unclear how or if it will affect her development. Encouragingly, her brain MRI came back completely normal, which is a hopeful sign. The family has been told they will need to remain in the hospital for at least two more months. This journey has been incredibly difficult for the parents and for their 2-year-old son, Miles, whose routine has been turned upside down while his mom spends most days at the hospital. The emotional and financial strain of medical bills, travel, and daily expenses has been overwhelming. Any support would mean the world to our family during this challenging time. Donations will help cover medical and essential expenses, allowing the family to focus on their daughter’s recovery and provide stability for Miles. Thank you for considering a donation and for sharing this fundraiser.
