Support for Nicole Forness

Update 2/11/22: Visitation and Funeral information: https://parrottandwood.com/obituary/nicole-forness/

Update 2/10/22 : This is the update we were never hoping to make. Nicole passed away Wednesday, February 9. Funeral services pending. We will provide an update with that information.

It brings me comfort knowing Nicole knows she has a large village standing with her family. She saw the generosity of those that knew her and ones who she had never even met. The love that her village will provide her children will never replace the love Nicole could give but we will make sure those babies know every day how loved they are and how much their mother loved them.

Please continue to pray and show support for Mitchell, Theo (4), Max (2), Cooper (1), and Isla (1 month). As well as Mitchell and Nicole’s family.

Update 2/6/22: On Saturday February 5, the decision was made after one month in the ICU to intubate Nicole. Prior to intubation, the doctors allowed baby Isla to visit her mom ♥️

Now, we wait. Nicole will continue to fight as her body rests. We are still hoping her lungs heal on their own. However, the lung transplant team will continue the process with her should a transplant be needed.

Mitchell, Nicole and family are humbled by the generosity of loved ones as well as those who may not know them. The support needed will continue and we appreciate each and every one of you.

Nicole Forness was admitted to the hospital in early January for COVID and pneumonia while 35 weeks pregnant. The decision was made to induce Nicole to ensure a safe delivery. Baby Isla Kay Forness was born January 7 at 5 lbs 2 oz. Baby Isla was immediately taken to the NICU after birth and has since been separated from Nicole. After a couple weeks though, the strong and beautiful baby was able to go home to join her dad Mitchell and her three older brothers, Theo (4), Max (2), and Cooper (1).

Nicole, however, has had a very tumultuous journey. After Isla was born, she was admitted to the ICU, where she remains today at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. On top of her battle with lupus, she has had a series of complications due to COVID.  Intubation has not been ruled out at this time as she continues to struggle with her oxygen levels and her lungs appear to be severely damaged. Mitchell has not been able to work in order to take on Nicole's huge role of a stay at home mom. He's now the primary caretaker for all four kids (along with the generous help of family members).

This will continue to be a long journey for the Forness family - physically, mentally, emotionally, financially. It is never easy asking for help but the road to recovery will be very long. Since there have been SO many who have asked how to help, on behalf of Nicole and Mitchell, we have created this page as a source to help the family get through this difficult time. Whether it be a donation, a meal, gas/gift cards, etc. We appreciate your kindness and keep the family in your prayers.
