On March 21st, 2019, Kurtis Finch, beloved father, fiancé, son, brother and friend entered the ICU after a life threatening incident occurred. Kurtis, who has suffered from a complicated and serious physical ailment and complex mental health issues for many years, spent the next 20 days in an induced coma, in critical condition.
Three days after Kurtis was admitted to the ICU, his fiancé, Nicole Bruinink, gave birth to their beautiful baby, Harper.
Kurtis has experienced a significant brain injury and his status fluctuates daily, sometimes hourly. Kurtis has in many ways defied the doctors’ expectations, but his future remains uncertain. It is likely that the road to healing, whatever that might look like for Kurtis, will be a long and arduous one.
To say the least, this is a beyond stressful and devastating time for Kurtis’ family. Nicole is navigating this unimaginable heartache while caring for a newborn, and her 5 and 10 year old sons, who are also coping with this trauma.
With all of the emotional pain and stress that a family crisis brings, it also brings financial burdens. Nicole is on maternity leave to care for baby Harper, and the loss of income that Kurtis provided for his family has left them in financial need.
This family’s life has been turned upside down, and the months ahead will likely be filled with struggle as they transition to a new way of life. We are hoping that during this time of sadness, people will come together to help love and support this devastated family.
By pooling our resources, we can help alleviate some of the strain of having to deal with the demands of everyday life during this painful time. All funds raised will be used to help offset any costs their family will incur as a result of this unexpected tragedy.
