Support for Nicole Baker and Security for Malia

Hello, my name is Ashley and I am raising money for my best friend, Nicole Baker, who was raised in Lawrence, Kansas. Nicole, 37 years young, has been battling many health conditions. She’s now at the end stage of liver disease. Nicole has been hospitalized numerous time in the last few months. Most recently she was admitted again, for the same health issues but then was diagnosed with Covid pneumonia. The doctors drained 3.5 liters of fluid from Nicole, operated on an ulcer and bowel obstruction. Christmas Day she was released from the Covid unit and was able to see her family. As the days went on, Nicole’s kidneys started to fail. Her MELD score skyrocketed to a 58 and anything past 40 is beyond transplant chances. There is no cure for Nicole. She is now at home and in Hospice care.

 

Nicole has a 13 year old daughter, Malia. Nicole has been off work for some time now. Nicole’s parents are taking care of Nicole and Malia in their home. I am asking people to please help this family! They have been through so much already. Nicole does NOT have life insurance which is weighing heavily on everyone. Debbie Wilkerson, Nicole’s mother, is the beneficiary for this fundraiser. Debbie and Wally (Nicole’s parents) will continue to support Nicole’s daughter after she passes.

 

As you can imagine, expenses are piling up. Debbie is working as much as she can but has recently had to shorten her work hours to stay home and care for Nicole. Wally will continue his work schedule as normal unless he is needed at home. Hospice only comes three times a week for approximately one hour. She also has an aide that comes in twice a week to bathe her and help with other things. We are all doing what we can to care for Nicole and to make sure she stays as comfortable as possible.
