Nate has always been the one others can count on—the first to show up when someone needs help, working hard without complaint, and providing a steady presence for his family and friends. As a devoted husband to Alli, a fantastic dad to Norah and Nina, and the owner of NGC Construction in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Nate has always taken pride in building, providing, and caring for those around him.
Over the past year, everything changed. Nate became critically ill after developing severe lung infections, leading to a 26-day hospitalization, including 12 days in the ICU. He suffered a pulmonary aneurysm and required full life support, including a ventilator and ECMO. Against incredible odds, he survived and began the slow process of recovery. As doctors continued searching for answers, Nate was diagnosed with a rare EBV-associated lymphoproliferative disorder, a possible form of lymphoma. He is now undergoing chemotherapy through UNMC, working closely with specialists at both UNMC and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). After completing his first round of chemotherapy, Nate returned home, but is currently back at UNMC after another surgery for a blood clot. He still faces more chemotherapy and a future stem cell transplant, so the road to recovery is long.
Right now, Nate’s full-time job is healing. He has been out of work for an extended period, and while he looks forward to the day he can return to doing what he loves—working hard and providing for his family—this season is about rebuilding health, strength, and stability. Their daughters, Norah and Nina, are in school and involved in multiple activities. The funds raised will help Nate and his family with living and medical expenses during this time.
Despite everything, Nate remains exactly who he’s always been—strong, steady, kind, and quietly resilient. Tough as nails, yet gentle and selfless to his core. He shows up for people. He loves fiercely. Nate’s story is one of grit, faith, positivity, and perseverance. He has already overcome so much, and his journey forward is filled with hope. This fundraiser is an opportunity to surround Nate and his family with the same support he has so freely given to others over the years. Thank you for being part of his support system and for standing with a family that has always stood for others.
