On February 2, 2026, Nano experienced a brain bleed and a major stroke, leading to impairment of his left side, a week in the ICU, and a couple days in the neuro unit. He is now in the inpatient rehabilitation unit of the hospital, working hard on his recovery. This unexpected event has placed a significant emotional and financial strain on Nano and Natalie.
As many know, Nano is always the brightest star in the room, with his wicked sense of humor, generous nature, and fierce determination to help his community realize their creative dreams. Alongside his spouse Natalie and their dog family, Ernie and Walter, Nano has dedicated years to the arts community, sustaining a successful poetry magazine (Sugar House Review), teaching SUU students, and encouraging countless others to pursue their creative dreams—all while working hard at his own poetry practice. When you know Nano, you feel that you have someone in your court: an ally, advocate, drinking buddy, and friend.
The funds raised through this campaign will help Nano and Natalie manage mounting medical bills, cover essential living expenses, and provide some much-needed peace of mind as they navigate this challenging time. Over the years, Nano has given so much to his community—now we can give back. Any support you can offer, whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser, will make a meaningful difference for Nano, Natalie, and their loved ones.
