Title: Support for Mykala Hill After a Tragic and Senseless Shooting
Hello, my name is Sonja Washington, and I’m the mother of Mykala Hill—a vibrant, determined, and deeply loved 22-year-old who is now facing the hardest chapter of her life.
In the early hours of April 18, 2025, Mykala became the victim of a senseless act of violence on I-14 near Nolanville, Texas (Killeen/Temple area). After a night out with friends, the vehicle she was riding in was ambushed by gunfire—targeted by a person believed to be connected to a series of violent attacks in the community.
Tragically, both young men in the car were killed. Mykala was shot seven times.
Miraculously, despite her life-threatening injuries, Mykala found the strength and clarity to flag down passing vehicles for help. Thanks to the courageous individuals who stopped, two of them were rushed to a hospital in Temple, TX. Unfortunately, the third victim passed away on the scene. We are endlessly grateful to those who rendered aid that night.
But the cost was devastating. One of the bullets remains lodged in Mykala’s spine, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.
Mykala was born and raised in Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos) while I served in the military. Her resilient spirit has always been a source of pride—and now, it’s being tested like never before.
She was just released from 24-hour care at a rehabilitation center on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, and is now home, beginning the long road to recovery. Even in the face of life-altering circumstances, she remains optimistic and determined to rebuild her life.
Sadly, the person responsible for this brutal attack has not yet been apprehended, deepening the trauma and pain for our family and community.
How You Can Help
Mykala now faces enormous physical, emotional, and financial challenges. She urgently needs:
• Ongoing medical treatment and rehabilitation
• Home modifications for wheelchair accessibility
• Specialized mobility equipment
• Training for her beloved pet to become a certified service dog for protection and emotional support
I’m doing everything I can as her mother, with the steadfast support of her godfather, Bernard Newton, who has been a rock for us both. But we cannot do this alone.
We’re asking our family, friends, and compassionate community to help us give Mykala the best possible shot at healing and rebuilding her life with dignity and independence.
No contribution is too small. Every donation helps ease the burden and gives Mykala the chance to focus on what truly matters—her recovery and future.
Your generosity, prayers, and encouragement mean more than words can say. Thank you for standing with us.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Sonja Washington
