To everyone who comes across my story, my name is Maria and I am the second oldest of six siblings. My family means everything to me, and I would do anything for them. My youngest sister passed away yesterday (May 4th) after battling an unknown illness for more than five months. Sometimes she would get better for a few days, but then her health would decline again. It was a heartbreaking cycle that left us all feeling helpless.

I am from Equatorial Guinea but live in the USA, so I couldn’t be there with her. I did what I could by sending money and praying for her recovery. My mom would call with updates—sometimes with hope, sometimes with worry. Each time I heard she was getting better, I felt relief, but the illness always returned. A few days ago, my mom called to say my sister was back in the hospital, struggling to breathe. I prayed harder than ever, hoping she would come home to her two beautiful boys and to my mom, who was exhausted from worry and grief. Sadly, my sister didn’t make it, and her life was taken from us far too soon.
