My mom and dad have always been there for me, and now they are facing one of the toughest challenges of their lives. A few weeks ago, my mom suffered an aortic dissection and had to be medevaced to a hospital 165 miles away from her hometown. She has been in the hospital for three weeks already, and doctors expect her to remain there for several more as she recovers from this life-threatening emergency. On top of everything, my mom is now experiencing acute kidney failure and requires dialysis as part of her treatment.

This sudden medical crisis has placed a huge emotional and financial strain on my parents. My dad, an Army veteran, is making the three-hour drive to the hospital every day to be with my mom and support her recovery. They even "celebrated" their 44th wedding anniversary during this time. The costs of medical care, travel to and from the hospital, and the upgrades needed to make their home safe for my mom’s return are overwhelming. He is doing everything he can to support her, but the expenses are adding up quickly.
