Support for My Nephew’s Healing

The end of this year and the beginning of the new one have been an incredibly difficult and emotional time for my nephew and our family.

On December 1st, my nephew was diagnosed with strep throat and started antibiotics as expected. After two weeks, instead of improving, his condition worsened. On December 22nd, he returned to the clinic and was then diagnosed with mono, with doctors advising rest and fluids and saying it would have to run its course.

Unfortunately, things continued to decline. On the night of December 23rd, he was taken to the Children’s ER, where he received IV fluids, pain medication, antibiotics, X-rays, and an MRI. Doctors discovered an abscess in his throat with swollen lymph nodes. He was released the following day to rest at home, but his condition still did not improve.

By December 28th, my nephew felt like he could barely breathe and was rushed back to the Children’s ER. He was in severe pain and immediately placed on IV morphine, Toradol, and Tylenol. Further testing revealed the abscess had grown larger and was now restricting his airway. The next afternoon, he was taken into surgery to have the abscess drained, with the possibility of removing his tonsils and adenoids. Doctors decided to delay that procedure of tonsil and adenoids until the abscess healed to prevent further infection with possible future removal.

After surgery, doctors discovered the abscess had developed a new bacteria that was resistant to the original antibiotic, forcing them to change his treatment plan. We are currently waiting and praying that this new antibiotic is effective.

Throughout this entire month of unexpected hospital visits, surgeries, and uncertainty, my sister and brother-in-law have had to miss work—and will continue to do so. At this time, there is no confirmed release date. Once my nephew is discharged, doctors are hoping for a smooth recovery period before possible plan of return for tonsil and adenoid removal, which will require at least a 10-day recovery.

With ongoing medical bills—especially considering my nephew’s existing heart condition and related appointments—the financial strain is growing quickly. Any support, whether through donations or prayers, would mean more than words can express.

My sister and brother-in-law are always the first to step up and help others in times of need. Today, I am asking for positive thoughts, prayers, and support to be sent their way as they continue to fight for their son’s health.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading, sharing, and supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time.
