On November 11, my little brother tragically died at the young age of 37 after falling asleep while driving (no one else was injured). He leaves behind my two nephews, ages 14 and 10, who are now left with just one parent. Their mother has spent 20 years loving my brother, both before and after a difficult end to their 13-year marriage. Recently, she relocated from Puerto Rico to Florida to be closer to family, hoping for a fresh start and more support. This sudden loss has left our family devastated and in a place of real need. While my nephews are surrounded by love, the shock of losing their father has created new challenges that we cannot face alone.

The most immediate need is transportation. Without a car, their mother has no reliable way to get to work, take the boys to school, or attend healthcare visits. She is disabled and has only recently begun working her first real job in over a decade. My older nephew has also been referred to several specialists, including a hearing specialist after failing a recent test. In addition to these urgent needs, the family is struggling to cover basic living expenses—food, utilities, insurance, and household essentials. Despite her efforts, their mother does not receive government assistance, having been denied due to previous child support. She is hoping to appeal this decision, but in the meantime, the need is great.
