In December of 2022, my chronically ill mother had one of the worst medical emergencies of her life. She formed a 90%+ blockage to her heart and nearly lost her life in the hospital before having stents placed in her chest. We were scared and devastated by how sick she was. However, shortly after the procedure, another tragedy struck, and for unknown reasons related to her condition, multiple bleeds formed in the back of her eyes. She has been dealing with the struggles of low vision ever since, with doctors only able to minimally restore the sight she initially lost. It has been an immense mental challenge for her, but she has been so strong. She always is, and we love her for it.

Most recently, she joined a vocational rehab program in Indianapolis that has taught her many skills with her limited vision and inspired her to take on life with a new perspective and dreams of starting a nonprofit that gives blind people community and support. However, for no clear reason, an additional worse bleed just occurred that significantly obscured her remaining vision. We pay for the best insurance we can afford, but the issue now is that no local care providers that have the ability to administer shots to her eyes and reduce some of the pooled blood will accept our insurance. Our only option is to pay out of pocket for the multiple rounds of appointments, with each one costing roughly $800, with what is needed beyond that being unclear at this time. Our ability to get my mother the treatment she needs lies in the hands of kind people like you that can change her life and our family’s life for the better. If you can help, please do.
