On Thurs November 27, a fire and carbon monoxide incident in the Thorncliffe Park community forced the majority of the building to be evacuated. Dozens of residents, including my mom, were suddenly displaced with no clear timeline for when they can safely return home. She left with only the essentials she could carry, and now faces the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding her life during a time when she should be preparing for retirement.
My mom is set to retire at the end of the year, and like many seniors, she does not have enough savings to cover all the unexpected costs that come with such a crisis—especially with uncertainty around what insurance will or will not cover. This incident has created financial pressure she was never prepared for.
Your support will help her cover essential needs while she is displaced, including:
- Temporary housing and transportation
- Food and daily necessities
- Replacement of essential items left behind
- Medical or safety-related costs from the incident
- Any remaining expenses not fully covered by insurance
Even the smallest contribution makes a meaningful difference during this difficult time. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your network would help more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting my mom during this unexpected crisis. Your kindness will help her regain stability, rebuild her peace of mind, and move toward retirement without this burden weighing on her.
From her sons:
Jessie and Joseph A
