On a recent afternoon at the playground, my husband was playing with our kids on the swings when a sudden accident changed everything. The swing flipped unexpectedly, and his left hand was caught in the chain, breaking his finger. Even more seriously, his right hand was caught on the S-hook that attaches the seat, tearing into his palm and severing a tendon and nerves. He has lost feeling in his ring finger and cannot move it, which is devastating for someone whose life and work revolve around creativity and dexterity.

He is scheduled for surgery on his right hand this Friday, followed by months of post-operative care and physical therapy. The doctors estimate it will take at least three months before he regains basic use of his hand, and up to six months before things feel somewhat normal again. There’s a real possibility that he may never fully recover feeling or dexterity in his finger. As a guitarist and photographer, this injury deeply affects his ability to pursue his passions and limits his day-to-day work. We are also facing the loss of secondary income from art and music shows, on top of missed work during his recovery.

We are raising funds to help cover the costs of his surgery and the long road of physical therapy ahead.
