On Monday, July 21st, we learned that my grandma has stomach cancer. Just a week later on July 28th, after a visit to the oncologist, we were told the devastating news that her cancer had already spread to her liver and lungs (a diagnosis of gastric malignancy with widespread metastatic disease). Chemotherapy is not an option
The past few days have been the hardest my family and I have ever faced. My grandma is now home on hospice, bedridden, surrounded by family, and my mom and I are by her side every day as her caregivers. We don’t know if we have weeks or just days left, but our only priority now is making sure she’s comfortable, pain free and surrounded with the love she gave so freely to all of us
My grandma raised my siblings and me for 18 years so that my parents could work and build a life for our family. She has always been a quiet force of faith, love and selflessness. She gave everything she had without ever asking for anything in return. Her faith in God has never wavered, even in these most painful days
Now I am asking for help not for ourselves, but to honor her. While insurance can only cover so much, we are hoping to raise funds to help with upcoming funeral expenses and to relieve some of the financial burden from my mom, who has taken time off work to be present with her mother in her final moments. The last thing she should have to worry about right now is money
If you’re able to give, we are so deeply grateful. If you can’t, please keep our family in your prayers. Thank you
