Support for My Father’s Critical Medical Emergency

Hi, my name is Shally Setiya, and I’m raising funds for the urgent medical treatment of my father, who is currently fighting for his life.

I am writing to you from the depths of a personal crisis that has turned our lives upside down. My beloved father, Mr. Ashok Kumar Tandon, is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Lakeridge Health Hospital, Bowmanville, Ontario, after being admitted on June 22 under emergency circumstances.

He was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home—unconscious and gasping for breath. Doctors diagnosed him with acute pneumonia and severe lung damage, and his condition remains critical. He has since been placed on a ventilator to support his breathing. While the medical team is doing everything they can, the road ahead is uncertain and deeply overwhelming.

My parents had travelled from India to Canada to support me during one of the most difficult periods of my life. As a Canadian citizen and a single mother of two young daughters, I have been coping with a painful marital separation, while also being on long-term disability for the past ten months due to mental stress and panic attacks. Their visit was a lifeline—they came to care for me and my children when I was barely holding on.

And now, in a devastating twist of fate, my father—the one who came to support me—urgently needs care. Watching him lie motionless, connected to machines in a hospital bed, has been heartbreaking beyond words.

We had taken travel medical insurance, but sadly, it is not enough to cover the full cost of his treatment. The total medical expense is now estimated at CAD 70,000, which includes ICU care, ventilator support, diagnostics, and medications. So far, we have managed to cover CAD 30,000 through the insurance payout and our personal savings—but we are still short by CAD 40,000, and time is running out.

This is not just a financial ask—it's a daughter's plea to save her father. He has given everything to his family and crossed oceans to support his children. I share this story in the hope that someone reading it may see a part of their own family in ours—and feel moved to help.
