On December 17th, our world changed in an instant. My mother was rushed to the hospital because her hemoglobin and iron were dangerously low. We were terrified as doctors ran tests, and our worst fears were confirmed when they found a tumor in her abdomen. Hearing the word 'cancer' was something I never thought I’d experience, and it’s been devastating for all of us. She needed surgery and couldn’t eat for almost four days. Watching her in pain broke my heart, and the uncertainty of what comes next has been overwhelming. Just as we were trying to process my mother’s diagnosis, another blow hit our family. On December 24th, my stepdad was detained on his way to work. My sister heard the commotion as he was being arrested and screamed at. He has always been our provider, and losing him right before the holidays has left us feeling lost and heartbroken. My stepdad has never treated me as anything less than his own child, and his kindness and care for our family have meant everything to us. Now, my mother can’t work as she recovers from surgery and prepares for chemotherapy. I have four siblings, and together we are all struggling to cope with the emotional and financial challenges. We are facing mounting medical bills, and we need help to cover the costs of an immigration lawyer for my stepdad. Everyone who knows my mother and stepdad knows how generous and loving they are. Any support you can offer would mean the world to us as we try to keep our family together and get through this incredibly difficult time.
