My dad, Clayton Ellis was nothing short of miraculous, overcoming most things life threw at him with strength and the unique ability to laugh. As a kid, I didn’t really understand much about his struggles and sickness. Looking back, I truly believe he did everything he could to protect my childhood from the weight of his challenges so I could enjoy being a kid. We weren’t rich or well off, but our home was always rich with love. Like any child, I wanted things, but in hindsight, I had more than most—a loving father. As imperfect as he was, he was the perfect father for me and my older brothers. I simply miss him, and I feel like I always will.

Towards the end, my dad was in and out of the hospital. I remained hopeful, as any son would, but he was tired, and I didn’t want to believe it. I kept telling myself this was just another speed bump, but in reality, that speed bump became a hill that ultimately became unclimbable. Spiritually and physically, he was exhausted. Now, I’m left with his memories and the expenses that come with saying goodbye, which I don’t think I can cover on my own.

I’m hoping the funds I can receive will help ease some of the weight in the coming weeks—funeral costs, bills, and anything else that comes up. Anything helps. Thank you for your support during this difficult time.
