My dad Florentino Candelaria has passed away at age 55 on Febuary 27 2026 at 10 pm. My dad was always the kind of person who puts others first. He worked at the Madera Unified School District, where he became a friend to so many people. During the holidays, he would cook meals for others whenever he could, always finding ways to help those around him. Even while taking care of me as I grew up, he never hesitated to lend a hand to someone in need. Now, im 21 years old, I am so grateful for everything he has done for me and for our community.

Six months ago, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. He has been incredibly strong throughout this battle, but the doctors have told us that he has little time left and will soon be going into hospice care. He is tired from being in the hospital for so long, and I know he worries about what comes next. It’s been a heartbreaking journey, but i did everything I could to make sure he is comfortable and cared for even in his last moments.
