On Monday, February 16th, while we were at Lake Tahoe on vacation, my brother-in-law showed his generous spirit by stopping to help a couple put chains on their tires. In a tragic turn of events, a truck coming from the opposite direction lost control and struck him. The accident left him with multiple fractures, including broken ribs, a burst artery, a broken collar bone, a perforated lung, a perforated esophagus, and several concussions. He was rushed to the hospital and spent the night in the Intensive Care Unit. He remains in critical condition and is still receiving intensive medical treatment.
What makes this even more difficult is that my brother-in-law does not have insurance and is not eligible for any medical programs. He is the sole provider for his wife and their one-year-old baby girl, both of whom depend on him. The doctors have told us that, due to the severity of his injuries, he will not be able to work for at least a year while he recovers. This has left his family facing not only emotional distress but also overwhelming financial challenges.
We are hoping to raise funds to help cover his hospital bills, ongoing therapies, medications, rent, and daily living expenses for him, his wife, and their daughter. El lunes 16 de febrero, mientras estábamos de vacaciones en Lake Tahoe, mi cuñado demostró su generosidad al ayudar a una pareja a poner cadenas en las llantas. En un trágico giro de los acontecimientos, un camión que venía en dirección contraria perdió el control y lo atropelló. El accidente le dejó múltiples fracturas, incluyendo costillas rotas, una arteria reventada, una clavícula rota, un pulmón perforado, el esófago perforado y varias conmociones cerebrales. Fue trasladado de urgencia al hospital y pasó la noche en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos. Permanece en estado crítico y sigue recibiendo tratamiento médico intensivo.
Lo que complica aún más la situación es que mi cuñado no tiene seguro médico ni es elegible para ningún programa médico. Es el único proveedor de su esposa y su bebé de un año, quienes dependen de él. Los médicos nos han dicho que, debido a la gravedad de sus lesiones, no podrá trabajar durante al menos un año mientras se recupera. Esto ha dejado a su familia enfrentando no solo angustia emocional, sino también enormes dificultades económicas. Esperamos recaudar fondos para cubrir sus gastos de hospitalización, terapias, medicamentos, alquiler y gastos diarios para él, su esposa y su hija.
