Last night, my brother’s world was shattered when his only son, his ex-wife, and his mother-in-law were killed in a tragic car accident at Cedar Ridge and Wheatland in Duncanville, Texas, caused by drag racing. The accident has been covered by the news, and our family is devastated by this senseless loss. My nephew was just 12 years old, full of joy and excitement after being promoted to the seventh grade. He had recently won second place in a baseball championship and attended Village Tech school, where he was known for his bright spirit and kindness. His mom was a beautiful soul, always donating her time and her incredible baked goods to underprivileged families, especially for special occasions like quinceañeras. She was also a dedicated member of the church choir, sharing her talents and compassion with everyone she met. His grandmother was equally involved in the community, touching many lives with her generosity. My nephew’s cousin is still fighting for his life in the hospital, and our family is holding onto hope for his recovery.

My brother has endured so much. He recently graduated from a drug rehab program and has been sober for almost two years, determined to show his son that his past does not define him.
