Hello, my name is Angela Code and I am hoping to fundraise some money to help alleviate the stresses on my family back home in Northern Manitoba.
Unfortunately, my dear auntie Sarah Thom has passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
My auntie Sarah endured a lot of loss throughout her life. Her eldest son Leo unexpectedly passed away in 2006 from a brain aneurysm. Her husband Isaac passed away from cancer in 2009. Her house burned down shortly after her husband's death. Her other son Richard tragically passed away in 2018. She has also endured the loss of many other loved ones throughout the years. The life expectancy of First Nations on reserves is sadly much lower than the national average. Indigenous people have to deal with so much more trauma, tragedy, ill health and premature deaths than the average Canadian. Poverty really exacerbates all of these tough realities.
My auntie's daughter Melissa has been helping to take care of her throughout the hardships, however, it is has been very hard on Melissa as well. She works as a janitor at the local school. Her income barely covers the bills as it is and now she cannot work as she will need time to grieve.
Please help donate what you can - every little bit helps.
Most of the money will go towards my auntie Sarah and Melissa's bills and funeral expenses. Any additional money will help cover for my mom and dad and hopefully my brother Mike and myself to be with our family. The cost to travel from Whitehorse, Yukon to northern Manitoba (return) on such short notice is expensive.
My auntie Sarah was the main caregiver to her grandson Leo (her late son Richard's son) ...and he will really need a lot of love and ongoing support.
We really appreciate any and all of your help at this time.
Masi cho / Thank you very much
Angela Code and family. ❤❤
