Jessica Phelon has dedicated her life to nurturing and educating young children, starting her journey in Early Childhood Education in 2003. As the director and owner of her own family childcare home, she has supported countless families in Oakland, CA, including partnering with the City of Oakland Head Start program to provide services for low-income families. Jessica is a devoted mother to four children: her two older children, Isis and Iliahs, and her twins, Iyven and Islynn. Iliahs just started his sophomore year, while Iyven and Islynn are beginning 3rd grade. Jessica’s deep understanding of both parenting and teaching has touched the lives of many children and families. Her care and dedication shine through in everything she does.
For years, Jessica has been bravely battling lung tumors, facing ongoing health challenges with strength and resilience. Recently, she was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that attacks smooth muscle tissue. Despite her diagnosis, she has continued to put the children in her care first, even while on oxygen and facing limited mobility. Her commitment to her profession and the children she teaches has never wavered, but the financial strain of her illness and the difficult decision to close her daycare have created significant challenges. As a small business owner, Jessica does not qualify for traditional disability benefits, making this time especially hard for her and her family.
Our son Rowan has flourished under Jessica’s guidance, learning his ABCs, counting, days of the week, and even mastering potty training. Jessica’s impact on our family and so many others is immeasurable. We hope this fundraiser can help ease the financial burden she faces, allowing her to focus on her health and her family. Your support will make a real difference for Jessica as she navigates this difficult chapter.
