Support for Mrs. Mak
This campaign is for Terri Makinster, a recently retired Cedar Rapids Schools teacher and our former colleague.
Terri was a teacher for over 35 years, most recently in Alternative Kindergarten at Viola Gibson Elementary in Cedar Rapids. Lovingly known as "Mrs. Mak" by her students and colleagues, Terri's greatest joy was spending time playing and conversing with young children. Her students enjoyed lessons full of music, movement, stories and cooperative play. As a colleague, she was eager to collaborate and discover new ways to keep her class excited about learning. Her openness and caring heart were the foundation of her professional and personal relationships.
Terri decided to retire early from teaching in March of 2021 in order to focus on her health. Since then, she has been in and out of the hospital and rehab center with new and worsening symptoms: digestive issues including a colostomy, neurological symptoms, and motor skill decline to name just a few. As of today, she is back in the care of hospital staff, and doctors continue to look for the cause(s) of her symptoms. It is Terri and Kevin's hope to find answers and treatments, do rehab, and return home if possible.
Terri's husband, Kevin, is also a veteran teacher and currently serves as the band director at Hazel Point Intermediate in the Linn-Mar district. Kevin is the assigned beneficiary for this campaign. He has sole access to transfer funds from the account, and will use them to offset the expenses that arise during Terri's treatment: mounting medical bills, gas, meals, overnight stays, etc.
Please join us in supporting this wonderful couple who has given so much to the children in our community! Their generous and humble spirits are worthy of all the love and support we can send right now!
