My beautiful mother has undergone a massive surgery and has unfortunately suffered complications from it. She was always the strongest and most independent woman, and she still is through her recovery and building strength. However, she has a rare condition called Parsonage Turner Syndrome, and severe spinal cord damage, which will likely take about a year to potentially regain full function but isn’t always guaranteed. I am currently the only one working to take care of her and my dad, who has a form of early-onset dementia, and I am already working 60 hours a week, but still, it is not enough. Insurance covers a good portion of needs, but there are a lot of adaptive items necessary on top of the regular living expenses, and she requires 24/7 care, preventing me from being able to go outside of the house to provide more financially. We’re also looking to move to more affordable and appropriate housing for the new needs. We have always been the caregivers and the ones to help others, so this is extremely hard to ask, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated and a huge help. She had lower back surgery in January, with this one following shortly after, and has a sacroiliac fusion to be done, potential thoracic correction of advanced spondylosis, and then a foot surgery on each side that will be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks. We have a long, hard road ahead of us, but we’re determined to persevere with the help of our friends.
