My mother, Charmin Ivory, is a loving mother of two, a former women’s football player, and a huge animal lover. She has always been active, full of energy, and known for her strength in keeping up with her two brothers.

In 2019, she was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in her lungs. In 2024, she contracted COVID-19, and because of her weakened immune system, the medications were ineffective. This caused her lungs to deteriorate until they could no longer function on their own, and she was placed on ECMO (a machine that supports the heart and lungs). Doctors then told us her only chance of survival was a lung transplant.

The transplant itself was a grueling 10-hour procedure. During surgery, her blood pressure began to bottom out, and doctors had to use medication to stabilize her. While it saved her life, the downside was that prolonged use of the medication restricted her blood circulation. This devastating complication forced her into an impossible decision: in order to survive, she had to undergo the amputation of both her hands and feet.

Through all of this, Charmin has continued to fight with unwavering faith and courage. Every step of her journey shows her resilience, but it has also brought enormous medical and financial burdens. Donations will help cover her rehabilitation, ongoing recovery, and medical expenses.
