On March 14, our lives changed in an instant. My mother suffered a devastating fall after losing consciousness (due to her underlying condition of dysautonomia), striking her face and sustaining severe injuries; including a broken nose and fractures in her cervical spine causing spinal cord impingement. In the immediate aftermath, she was left paralyzed from the shoulders down.
Through extraordinary strength and determination, she has made some progress like regaining limited movement in her arms and hands, but she remains without feeling from the waist down. After time in the ICU, she was transferred to a specialized spinal rehabilitation facility in Charlotte, where she has undergone hours of intensive therapy each day.
Despite her resilience, the road ahead remains uncertain. She may require a high-risk neck surgery, with no guarantee of restored mobility. Now that she is returning home, her recovery will require significant support: adaptive medical equipment, home modifications, continued therapy, and ongoing medical care.
Between insurance deductibles, copays, rehabilitation expenses, home modification and anticipated surgical costs, the need is significant and ongoing.
If you feel moved to help, whether through a donation, by sharing her story, or some prayers, we would be profoundly grateful! Your kindness, generosity, and support mean more than words can express during this incredibly difficult time.
