Support Mom’s Life Long Care Journey with Brain Injury

Donation protected

On February 24th, 2024, my mother was a passenger in a car accident that resulted in life-threatening injuries, multiple bone and skull fractures, a traumatic brain injury, and coma. This life-altering event has necessitated ongoing, specialized care and support, which unfortunately isn't covered by insurance and can amount to as much as $5,000 per month. Tragically, a few months prior to the accident, she was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, which comes with a separate set of struggles for her. As her sole child and advocate, I bear the responsibility of her care and support, particularly in light of her lack of family, savings, and resources. Managing this alongside supporting my son and navigating my own financial obligations will undoubtedly be an impossible task.

Since regaining consciousness, she has had an uphill battle to re-learn basic skills such as moving her arms and legs, walking, talking, sitting, eating, swallowing, and breathing on her own. My mother is only 59 years old. She has a lot of life left to live, and while she is making small physical progress, her brain is permanently injured with many deficits. Due to the brain injury, she struggles with constant confusion, memory loss, fear of what she can’t make sense of, emotional turmoil, and is unable to recognize most people, places, things, or sense of time. I am striving to provide the lifelong care for her to give her the best possible outcome and quality of life so she can enjoy being a grandmother to her only grandchild as he grows up, and live the rest of her life with as much joy and comfort as possible.

I am seeking donations to help cover the out-of-pocket costs of her assisted living care, which includes memory care, medical treatment, multiple therapies, medications, and day-to-day assistance in a safe home for people with traumatic brain injuries. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in the quality of her ongoing care, her quality of life, and recovery road ahead.

I am deeply grateful for your kindness and generosity during this very challenging time. Your support will only help secure the necessary care for my mother as we navigate this difficult life-changing circumstance. Thank you for considering a donation to assist with her ongoing care and rehabilitation.
