Support for Kelly Cockrell’s Flood Recovery Efforts
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
This past Sunday, my mom’s home in New Mexico was hit by severe flooding while she was out of town. Over 1.5 feet of water (in some places over 2.5 feet) filled her house and sat, causing extensive damage. She’s currently without power and water—the floodwaters shifted her well house, breaking all the pipes and likely contaminating her water supply. Most of her fencing was destroyed. She also lost one of her dogs in the flood. Her barn shifted 20 feet and split open.
To make matters worse, insurance won’t cover the damages because the area isn’t considered a flood zone, and FEMA assistance has been denied since it hasn’t been declared a federal disaster. We are working on this, but are still stuck.
Nearly everything inside the home has been destroyed—drywall, flooring, furniture, beds, family heirlooms and more. We’re facing the possibility of mold remediation after days of constant rain, with no fans to dry things out, and she will need major plumbing and electrical repairs. We also don’t yet know how badly the foundation has been impacted.
This is a devastating loss. Any amount you can give—$5, $10, anything—will make a difference as we work to get her safe and back on her feet.
My mom is a person who shows up for everyone else, and so I hope to be able to rally the troops to show up for her.
Thank you for your help and kindness.
