Hello everyone, this past August we found out my mom has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. She was diagnosed by chance when she got a follow up CT scan for her lungs. As many of you may or may not know, at the end of 2020 my mom got Covid, and unbeknownst to us she fought through Covid Pneumonia without help. This resulted in her being on breathing treatments for a year and a half. So with the severe scarring she got from that time it made her prone to getting respiratory infections. At the end of December 2024 she got sick and thought she had gotten over it, but went to the doctor in April 2025 because she had a lingering cough. They ordered a CT scan of her chest and the doctors told her she had been dealing with walking Pneumonia for almost 4 months. After heavy antibiotics she was asked to do a follow up CT in August. By that time she had been experiencing nausea from eating and nausea from just the scent of some foods. Along with the nausea she had tenderness in her abdominal area. All these symptoms had been going for about a month. The doctor wanted to make sure she wasn’t having early signs of appendicitis. So along with the CT of her chest she ordered a CT scan of her abdominal area and pelvis. That’s when they informed us that they had found a mass on her Pancreas, and not only did they find a mass there but they found lesions on her liver as well. This was devastating, because we don’t have a family history and there were barely any signs. After many tests including a PET scan and a liver biopsy, the oncology team at MD Anderson confirmed it was already at stage 4 because it had metastasized (spread) to her liver and lymph nodes. They immediately started her on an aggressive chemo treatment. Since then she has had 5 treatments and a follow up CT that showed the chemo working. My mom has been incredible throughout this whole process. She is one of the strongest people I know and that I’m sure many of you can concur that she is incredible. My family is going through one of the hardest periods in our life and anything you all can do to help support my mom in this harrowing journey would mean the world.
