On Saturday, August 15, my 49-year-old mother was involved in a terrifying near-drowning incident at Aliso Beach in Laguna Beach. She was pulled from the ocean unresponsive and had to be airlifted from the beach to the hospital.

What wasn’t reported was that my mom suffered a heart attack while she was in the water. By the grace of God and the incredible lifeguards, first responders, and medical teams who fought to save her, she survived.

She is currently at Mission Hospital under close monitoring. Her medical team is waiting for her troponin levels to come down before she can be transferred to her home hospital at Scripps, where she will continue receiving care and evaluation.

This has been a frightening and unexpected experience for our family. We are so grateful my mom is alive and receiving care.
