Support for Mom After Home Lost to Lightning

Last Friday night our family’s home was struck by lightning and destroyed. By the grace of God and the bravery of our neighbors, the Vegas family, our 82 year old mom got out alive. David and his daughter Nicole came to the rescue, Nicole waiting at the front door and David ran around to the back. Our mom always keeps her doors locked- we believe our loved ones who have passed on unlocked the back door so David could get her out. Nicole put a towel over her head and told her “you gotta get out of here!” when she wanted to go back in for her belongings. We are forever grateful that her life was saved.
The home on Fieldwood Drive has been a part of our family since it was built in 2002. It is the home we raised our kids in before moving out and moving our mom in so she could have a stable and comfortable home in her final years. It has been a central gathering place for the past 23 years.
While we are thankful beyond words that no one was hurt, the loss is overwhelming. The home and all of the belongings have been destroyed. To make matters even harder, she did not have insurance. Every piece of furniture, clothing, and daily necessities are all gone.
We are asking for help to replace the essentials and begin to rebuild what was lost. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping our mom get back on her feet.
If you can’t give, please consider sharing this fundraiser with others. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
Melena and Dylan Ornelas
