Support for Moira and Guy Donnelly
On May 19th, my dad went into the Strathcona Community Hospital with severe stomach pain. They did a couple tests and found he had fluid build up in his stomach. He was put on antibiotics for a major stomach infection.
May 21, they had him go in to the Royal Alex to have 3.5L of fluid drained from his stomach. Since then he’s been nauseous, in excruciating pain and having a hard time keeping the smallest amount of food down.
Monday May 25, my mom took him in to see his physician for a follow up, and was immediately advised to take him home and call an ambulance.
Since then he’s been at the Royal Alex. Tests were done to try and figure out what could be going on. When biopsy results finally came back, we were informed he has Peritoneal Mesothelioma. Which is cancer in the protective lining of the intestines. The only known cause for this type of cancer is asbestos. At this point we’re still waiting on a consult with the Cross Cancer Institute, but with him being so weak there may not be many options.
My mother has spent every day with him at the hospital which has resulted in her having to take quite a bit of time off work. With the near future being so uncertain she’s been hit with the hard choice of either spending time with him or returning to work to keep her job as she will now be the sole provider. This is obviously become very stressful on her.
Whatever I can do to try and take the financial burden off of them for just a little while, is the least I can do. They have both worked so hard to not only provide for their family over the years, but have also always helped anyone else in need whenever they could.
Please consider helping out if you can. ❤️
