My grandmother, Mimi, is 94 years old and has always been incredibly independent. Even at her age, she dressed, bathed, and cared for herself every day. Everything changed at the end of December 2025, when she began experiencing a series of transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). On December 28, she suffered a stroke, followed by another on January 2, and a final, devastating stroke on January 6, 2026. This last stroke took away her right side, her speech, her critical thinking, and her independence. After weeks in rehab, Mimi just returned home on January 30, but she now has almost no function on her right side, struggles with swallowing (dysphagia), and has aphasia.

My mom, who is 65, lives with Mimi and has always been her main support. She had to take early retirement to care for Mimi full-time, which has left her with a very limited income. The daily care Mimi now needs is overwhelming—helping her move from her chair to her bed, bathing, clothing, and changing her diapers. My mom is doing everything she can, but it’s a lot for one person, especially as she gets older herself.

I am hoping to raise enough funds to provide a medical aide who is familiar with stroke care and understands the importance of safety, especially since Mimi is on blood thinners. Having help at least two to three days a week, in the mornings and evenings, would make a huge difference. Any extra funds raised will go toward essential medical supplies like Thick-It (to thicken her drinks), diapers, gloves, wipes, and anything else Mimi might need. My Mimi and my mom are two of the most selfless people I know, and this is the least I can do to try to support them. They deserve the world, and I hope you’ll consider helping us during this difficult time.
