Miles, my 2-year-old nephew, is facing the toughest challenge of his young life. What started as a hospital visit for impaction quickly turned into something much more serious. In a matter of minutes, Miles went from being able to talk and move to losing control of his legs, and then his entire body. The doctors diagnosed him with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an extremely rare neurological disease that attacks the nerves of the body. He is now sedated and breathing with the help of a ventilator in the pediatric intensive care unit. There is no cure for Guillain-Barré syndrome, and in most cases like Miles', the cause is never known. The doctors are confident in their diagnosis, but the road to recovery will be long and uncertain. Miles will remain in the PICU for weeks, and even after that, he will need to stay in the hospital for further care.
This has been a devastating time for our family. My brother and his wife are doing everything they can to be by Miles' side, while also caring for their 4-year-old daughter. The medical bills are already piling up, and the everyday costs of meals, diapers, and basic needs are adding to the stress. Your support will help them manage these overwhelming expenses and allow them to focus on what matters most—being there for Miles and helping him heal.
Please donate or share—anything you can do will help them, and I know that they, as well as our entire family, would appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us during this incredibly difficult time. We thank God for the doctors and nurses He has placed in Miles' life and for His healing grace.
