My dad, Mike, served over 20 years in the army as a combat veteran, spending much of his career with the 10th Special Forces Group. He has always been a source of strength and resilience for our family. Recently, Mike was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He has started chemotherapy and has been in the hospital for over two weeks as we work on pain management, hoping to get him home to continue his fight. We are also exploring alternative treatment plans to give him the best possible care, but these options are very expensive and not fully covered by insurance.

Our family is facing additional challenges. My mom, Virginia, is a full-time caregiver for my older brother, David, who has cerebral palsy and cannot walk or talk. In 2018, my mom was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease, which has progressed over the years and made her caregiving role even more difficult. As her condition worsens, we are starting to look into alternate care for David, which will likely require significant out-of-pocket expenses. The combined costs of my dad's treatments and my brother's care are overwhelming for our family.
