Murph Murphy Support Fund

Yesterday, January 27th 2017, my good friend, Mike "Murph" Murphy, injured himself while surfing at Backdoor here on the North Shore in Hawaii. He pulled into the barrel and never made it back out. The wave threw him into the reef and he landed knees first, shattering both his knee caps. 

After a four hour surgery, the doctor was able to put Murph's knee caps back together with screws and wire. The doctor has told him he can't put any weight on his right leg and only 50% weight on his left leg, which means he won't be able to walk for the next couple months. 


Murph is a tiler and kneels all day long laying tile.  At this stage, it's unclear how long he's going to be out of work or whether he'll ever be able to go back to tiling at all as a result of this accident. We also are not sure to what extent Murph's surgery/hospital stay and rehab will be covered by insurance.  

For those who know Murph, you know why I am setting up this page: because Murph is one of the kindest, most loyal, humble, salt of the earth guys out there and because Murph would never ask for a dime from anyone for himself.  I know the core group of Murph's friends and loved ones all want to help and support in any way we can, so I'm setting up this Murph Murphy Support Fund to try to channel that all in one direction for our boy.  

To anyone who does not know Murph, but who has made it this far down the page reading: if you are so inclined to chip in to help out someone you do not know, I can only say that Murph is one of the best.  He is loyal, humble, kind and generous (and he introduced me to my wife!).  He hurt himself doing one of the things he loves the most (and something he is damn good at, but he would never say so).  

We appreciate any support.  We love you, Murph!  We got this!
