Support for Miguelina's Family in Difficult Times

At 80 years of age, Miguelina passed away after a sudden decline of health on Sunday, May 5th Miguelina lived courageously for several years with renal disease.

Born and raised in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico where she attended local schools and graduated from High School. She was a beloved daughter of the late Aurora Francisco-Cordeo and grew up with her seven siblings.

Miguelina was married to Santos A. Hernandez in 1968 and was a resident of Chelsea for most of her adult life. She was passionately devoted to home and family raising her own five children and foster parenting more than 50 children over the years in need of shelter and a stable home filled with love and compassion. She was also named foster parent of the year in 1993.

In her lifetime Miguelina enjoyed her role as a loving and doting grandmother “Mama” to her 11 grandchildren. She loved home cooking and preparing meals, surrounding herself with loved ones family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed poetry.

In addition to her mother, she was also predeceased by five of her siblings and a grandson.

Miguelina is lovingly survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Santos A. Hernandez. She was the devoted mother of Iris McGetrick and her husband Edward of North Andover, Audeliz Hernandez, Edwin Hernandez, Sr. and his wife Alexandra, and Kristina Hernandez, all of Chelsea, and Rosaliz Salazar and her husband Francis of Leominster. A dear sister of Nereida Toro of PR, and Freddie Toro of Chelsea, she is also survived by her 11 cherished grandchildren, her niece Migdalia Colon and her husband Carlos of Easton, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
