Dear friends,
On January 31st, 2020 our dear friend Michael Gazetas went missing.
Michael was beloved to his friends, family and colleagues in the film industry.
The last time his wife, Michelle Root, saw him was that morning. He left their home near Courtenay on Vancouver Island in his truck and tragically has never been seen since. Friends, RCMP and local Search and Rescue teams searched for weeks and months on the ground and from the air. The search continues, but Michael's whereabouts remain a mystery.
His wife Michelle has been left bereft, without answers and with a challenging legal and financial situation. She has been through months of searching, speaking to the media and police while trying to deal with paying her husband’s bills and dealing with the legal issues that surround a missing person which are complicated.
As you can imagine it has been a difficult time of grieving, bereavement, PTSD and psychological duress, leaving her unable to work. In the absence of finding Michael, Michelle is also left with the responsibility for her husband’s debts.
As a friend of both Michael and Michelle, I am setting up this fundraiser as Michelle needs our help, love and support to get through this year and to pursue legal channels in order to secure a death certificate for Michael. As you can imagine navigating the court system during COVID is going to take some time.
If you are able to donate any funds to help Michelle to support her in her day to day living costs such as rent, food, dental and counselling bills, on going debts and upcoming legal bills, it would be greatly appreciated.
While money gives the most flexibility to have needs met, some in-kind support is also welcome. Please let us know if you'd like to see other ways of helping.
