On April 20th, our family’s life changed when we found my stepfather, Michael Carter, on the ground unable to move or speak just before leaving for work. He had suffered a stroke caused by an intracerebral hemorrhage, which has left him unable to speak clearly and unable to move much of the right side of his body. He is currently fighting in the ICU as doctors closely monitor him.

Since the incident, my mother Summer has remained by his side at the hospital and has not been able to return to work while supporting him through this period. We have been told Michael will need extensive physical and speech therapy, and we do not yet know what his recovery will look like. With the uncertainty surrounding his hospital bills and rehabilitation, our family is facing many financial unknowns, including how my mother Summer and his daughter Michelle will be supported while he can no longer work.
