Over the past several weeks, my dad went through a long and difficult medical battle and spent time in the ICU surrounded by people who loved him very much. Recently, he passed away peacefully, and I am now trying to navigate life without him here.

This has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. Along with grieving and trying to process everything, I am also handling the many practical responsibilities that come after losing a parent — planning a memorial service, managing his apartment and belongings, and taking care of the unexpected expenses that come with all of it.

I’m thankful that I’m able to cover some initial costs, but my dad simply wasn’t financially prepared for something like this. Right now I’m trying to balance memorial expenses, apartment rent and utilities while I clean everything out, and the costs of sorting through and moving his belongings.

Anyone who knows me knows how important family is to me, and it’s really important to me that I’m able to handle these final responsibilities with care and give him a respectful goodbye.
