My name is Katriza, and together with my family, we are asking for your donations to help my brother, Melvin, and his family.

On Monday, April 13th, my sister-in-law Hanna, Melvin’s wife and a dedicated nurse at RUST Presbyterian Hospital, went in for a simple and routine procedure she’s done before at UNM Hospital. During her procedure, she developed Negative Pressure Pulmonary Edema and had to be hospitalized longer than they expected for observation. On Wednesday, April 15th, she was rushed to the ICU after suffering a sudden, unexplained, severe, and prolonged (as much as 20 minutes) anoxia and went into cardiac arrest. Although initial tests showed some promise, an MRI has shown no brain activity on Saturday, April 18th. Our family is awaiting subsequent testing to confirm brain death.

As the only person able to work, my sister-in-law’s absence has left her family facing an unimaginable crisis. My brother is a devoted stay-at-home father and husband. He cares for their two children: 7-month-old Sebastian and 7-year-old Xander, who is autistic and requires constant support. With Hanna’s critical condition, their family’s future is filled with uncertainty.

The funds raised will help cover essential living expenses as he navigates the coming months, unsure of what each day will bring. If the worst should happen and Hanna passes, these funds will also help with funeral expenses and the family’s next steps.
