Support for Melissa Westbrook’s Healing Journey
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Allie Targaczewski, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my dear friend Melissa Westbrook and her family during an incredibly difficult time.
On June 4th, Melissa was rushed to the ICU at Grand Strand Medical Center (three hours away from home) after developing a severe E. coli infection that quickly turned septic. Since then, her condition has been critical.
Melissa has undergone emergency surgery and multiple rounds of dialysis, as her kidneys are now failing. She's currently on a ventilator due to the excess fluid in her body, which is placing a great deal of strain on her heart and lungs. Her body is also having a hard time clearing the sedation, making it difficult for her to wake up.
Melissa is fighting hard, and while she remains very sick, we are seeing small but meaningful improvements each day. We are holding onto hope, faith, and every positive sign.
We are raising funds to help Melissa’s family cover:
-Travel and lodging costs, as the hospital is far from home
-Daily living expenses, as Melissa and her husband Wes are unable to work during this time
-Ongoing and future medical bills for her long recovery ahead
Melissa is an incredibly strong, loving, and faithful woman who has touched many lives. She has a long road to recovery, but she is not alone, we’re walking this path with her.
Your support, whether through a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or lifting Melissa in prayer, means the world to us. Every act of kindness brings comfort, strength, and a step closer to healing.
God has already blessed us with small victories, and we trust in His power to continue healing Melissa. Thank you for standing with us.
With gratitude and hope,
Allie

*UPDATE FROM HAYLEY 6/17*
Mom is making progress!
Her white blood cell count is back to normal, labs are looking good, urine output is good. She is still in AFIB. She got up for the first time today and sat in the recliner for a little bit.
Now we are battling the issues with her extremities, mainly her fingers and toes. This was a reaction from a combination of sepsis and medication to stabilize her blood pressure. She currently has no use of her hands and very little use of her feet. More than likely she will lose portions of her fingers and toes, so keep the prayers coming. The doctors here are amazing and they have a whole team dedicated to her case to figure this out.
At this time we have no answer of when she will be discharged and more than likely they are thinking she will need to go to a rehab facility.
Thanks for all the prayers and donations, you have no idea how thankful we are for our community!
