On January 27th, my brother Andy Smith had a major stroke that affected his brainstem; it went misdiagnosed, and he was sent home. On January 30th, symptoms worsened, and then the true diagnosis was determined. He was airlifted from Horseheads, NY to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. Andy spent 10 days in the Neuroscience ICU where an amazing team of doctors and nurses worked around the clock on his care. Unfortunately, the brain damage was too significant, and there was nothing the team could do to repair it.
On Sunday, February 8th, we said goodbye to Andy. He passed peacefully and without pain with his wife Melinda by his side.
Andy leaves behind his wife Melinda and their sweet 7-year-old daughter Celia.
Andy was 57 years old.
