On 8/4/2026, my 14-year-old cat, Meek, was diagnosed with feline mammary carcinoma.

I have three beloved senior animals, and all three are currently struggling with serious health problems—but Meek’s cancer diagnosis is the most urgent and frightening.

Meek was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and has started medication, but the adjustment has been difficult. She has been struggling to keep food down and was just prescribed anti-nausea medicine. She also needs a high-protein diet and has a dental procedure waiting, including at least one confirmed extraction, but her cancer treatment now has to come first.

During an appointment to test a mass on her abdomen, the cells reacted in a way that indicated cancer. The veterinarian explained that mammary tumors in cats are very often malignant. Meek will need surgery to remove the cancer and give her the best possible chance at more good time.

Thankfully, I caught the mass early. Meek is a wonderful cat, and she deserves the opportunity to keep enjoying the lives she has left.

At the same time, I am also caring for two other senior animals with significant medical needs.

Cookie, my dog, is completely blind and diabetic. Her treatment has already cost more than $800 over the past two months. She has always been gentle and loving with everyone she meets, and even on the difficult days, she is worth everything it takes to care for her.

Cody was my late mother’s dog and is now in my care. He has congestive heart failure and lung disease, requires daily medication, and is due for his annual examination.

Between Meek’s cancer surgery, testing, medication, special food, Cookie’s diabetes treatment, and Cody’s heart and lung care, I am facing more than $2,000 in veterinary expenses for all 3 senior pets—and that amount continues to rise.
