Hey dudebros, The time has come in my treatment when we may need a little financial assistance. First, let me start with the important part: I am doing “well” right now, circumstances considered. Treatment and side effects are hard and exhausting, but they’re proceeding as expected, and my team is still hopeful this will be curative, but we won’t know if it is until early May.
During my original surgery, a nerve controlling one of my vocal cords was severed, which left me without a voice for about a month. I received a vocal cord injection in December that was meant to help for 5-7 months, but the injections are only lasting a couple of weeks (I have had 3 so far), and the latest injection has barely worked at all. Ultimately, I will need a laryngoplasty, a surgery that will permanently repair the vocal cord, but I can not get that while I’m in treatment, or for at least a month after treatment ends. Because my job requires consistent time on the phone, this puts me in a position where many days it is difficult at best to work. I have continued to work as long as possible because we discovered during surgery that short-term disability cut my income so significantly that we could not afford for me to stay out of work during treatment and still make sure bills get paid.
So now, I’m trying this the good old fashioned American way, crowdfunding. Your support will help me take time off work for treatment, for rest, and for better healing. Any little bit helps, but if you can’t donate I welcome all good vibes, cool spells, prayers, etc. Currently I’m unsure how long I’ll have to be away from work, but hope to have a better idea of that in the coming weeks. Anything that is donated that doesn’t go to covering missed wages or medical bills will be re-donated to another campaign like this.
This doesn’t end when chemo and radiation ends. There will be tons of follow up scans, at least a year of immunotherapy, and a couple of minor surgeries to repair issues that came up during my lobectomy. My mental health has good days and bad days, just like my physical health but overall I’m positive and believe we’re on the right track for me. I appreciate anyone who took the time to read, share, or donate. Sending love to each and every one of you.
